Are Digimon Really The Champions?: The Best, Dullest, and Worst episodes in all of Digimon

Now that we’ve picked out the best, dullest, and worst episodes from Adventure, 02, Tamers, Frontier, Savers, Xros Wars, and Appmon, as well as all the movies and each Chapter of Tri, it’s time to pick out the best, dullest, and worst episodes in the whole Digimon franchise!

Best
Digimon Adventure, Episode 43 – “Playing Games” (“The Dangerous Game! Pinocchimon”)
Look, this was a hard choice between Appmon’s Episode 4 and this and as much as I enjoyed that episode of Appmon, I feel that this episode of Adventure stands out more – the majority of Appmon was really good, but the majority of Adventure was ‘okay’. It’s the same reason why I’m choosing this episode instead of Episode 39 of Tamers – great emotional payoff, but not really a stand out episode compared to the rest of the season which was, like Appmon, mostly good.
I’m a big fan of whenever the stakes are as high as they should be in an episode of Digimon as the Chosen Child seems to be relatively safe in the season despite constantly being around giant monsters with guns where their faces should be.
However, in this episode, an eight year old was held at gun point and had to outsmart the Digimon making it stand out in a franchise where the human child could be standing their and the bad guy never thinks ‘Hey maybe if I blow up this kid which causes the Digimon I’m fighting to evolve I could win against the Digimon?’. Yeah, while Puppetmon never considered that, he at least had the initiative to separate Digimon from their human partners and attempt to kill one of them.
It just really stands out to me.
Dullest
Episode 32 – “Shibumi Speaks” (“The Mystery of Guilmon’s Birth! The Mystic Water Space”)
Jesus gives an info dump.
My answer for this was almost Chapter 4 of Tri but the opening scene was so good it saved it from this rank. Likewise, Appmon Episode 26 was saved because of the catchphrase counter.

Worst
Digimon Frontier, Episode 4 – “Kazemon Kicks It” (“My Kick is Painful! Female Warrior Fairymon”)
Izumi has an evolution episode and manages to lose somehow, despite the common ‘Hey I just evolved so I’m invincible’ trope Digimon loves to have.
This position was almost given to Episode 8 of Digimon Savers but at least it wasn’t an evolution episode for Yoshino.
It’s the only time an evolution battle has resulted in an immediate loss.
Sure, in Lilimon’s evolution episode in Adventure she did lose (as in, got turned to stone by Vamdemon) but this was at the start of the next episode after winning in her ‘evolution battle’ and it was also against the big bad of the arc.
Fairymon lost against the ‘Monster of the Week’ and had to get rescued by a boy.
It’s bad.
Alright, that’s it for the best, dullest, and worst episodes in the entire franchise of Digimon. While, for me, Frontier was the seasons I disliked the most, I wouldn’t say that this means that Adventure was my favourite or that Tamers is the dullest, they just happened to have a stand out episode to put in the ranking.
Thanks for reading this series of blog posts! I’m really glad I didn’t keep it to one whole blog post for every season as well as the overall!
