Rewatch of Digimon Adventure Episode 5

Continuing on with the rewatch of Digimon Adventure for the Digimon subreddit in the leadup to the Digimon Adventure Reboot coming in April, here’s my Rewatch of Digimon Adventure Episode 5 review!

Opening thoughts

Mimi continues to be on a different fucking planet to the rest of the cast during this episode, so I’m looking forward to her improving.

The group is more or less separated, so we get a few nice moments of the characters in smaller groups to expand more on their own personalities.

“Kabuterimon’s Electro Shocker”

Rewatch of Digimon Adventure Episode 5 Review

Opening of kids walking in the desert being tired, mainly Mimi.
Characters decide to make fun of Izzy for trying to use his computer. Tai uses percussive maintenance.

Izzy’s laptop starts up, but his battery is flat.
Tai sees Factorial Town.
Mimi wants it to be a factory outlet so she can go shopping.
The factory, however, appears to be uninhabited.
Prodigious is used for the first time when Izzy finds a large battery to charge his laptop.

Tai, Sora, and Joe find Andromon who is mangled in some gears. Joe doesn’t help because he has bad knees. Andromon gets freed by the children, but a black gear gets pushed into him. Joe is worried that it’ll be like a movie where a robot came to life and killed everyone.

Tai, Sora, Joe, and their partner Digimon then spend some time trying to escape from Andromon while Izzy learns about how the factory and the battery works and Matt has to listen to Mimi who is on a completely different level of consciousness.

Izzy is determined for answers and we get a brief flashback to his parents talking about something ominous. The first actual scene of any of the parent figures in the season.
Izzy’s Digivice activates while Matt and Mimi notice that the factory actually assembles and then disassembles them too.

Izzy discovers that data is a living substance in the DIgital World, the whole group is reuinted and Andromon is still trying to murder them.

Matt and TK are in danger and Gabumon evolves, meaning he’s the first Digimon to evolve for a second time. Agumon also digivolves to help.

Sora mentions that it’s like Andromon is a higher level than the other Digimon. I don’t know why Biyomon doesn’t evolve and I don’t know why they didn’t evolve or try to fight when they were first being chased, honestly.

Tentomon tells Izzy to activate the program again to see if he can evolve, which breaks the forumula from previous episodes because Izzy cheats.
Tentomon digivolves to Kabuterimon and is able to ‘disconnect his energy source’, which actually destroys the black gear inside him.

Andromon tells them how to escape, but I’m not sure where. “Remember the big guy who turned out to not be so bad.”

TK asks Izzy if he can make Patamon evolve with the problem, but Izzy says it doesn’t work anymore when he tries. Also Izzy says Prodigious again.

Rating for my Rewatch of Digimon Adventure Episode 5

3/5

The first showcase of actual team work in the show as this is the first time other Digimon have been able to evolve. It makes sense that teamwork was needed because Andromon is the first perfect level Digimon we’ve seen in the show. We get a few nice moments between the kids as well, further establishing their individual personalities when they’re not being so nasty to eachother.

My stand out line is “I admire the way you keep working while your friends are having fun.” Tentomon they’re literally trying to escape death right now.
