Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 34 "Hikari and Tailmon"

Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 34 “Hikari and Tailmon”

Following on from last week’s review and, of course, our podcast discussion episode, it’s time to watch the 34th episode of Digimon Adventure: (2020)!

Opening thoughts

Please be good, please be good, please be good….

Since I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the last few episodes, I’m increasingly anxious to watch Digimon this week; not to mention the fact that this episode seems to be a Hikari-focused one and, so far, the show has not really given Hikari a character.

Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 34 Review

The previously on says that Tailmon WAS DarkKnightmon, so I guess that’s explained, which is neat.

Digimon Adventure: is different to all other seasons of Digimon because instead of walking through a desert, we’re riding a dog train through one. Revolutionary stuff! Also probably the greatest thing I’ve ever seen is Tailmon speaking Komodomon’s language. Hikari yells something to Taichi about them diving, which the Komodomon then proceeds to do.

WHAT A GOOD BOAT TRAIN DOG! His tail is a proppeller and it’s wild. Also the characters..I hope..have some bubble because otherwise how are they breathing. They then go down into a whirlpool. They’re now all inside and Tailmon says that they’re heading towards FAGA.

Tailmon explains at the end of the war, Faga was where the last shard of Millleniumon fell. This shard tempted Digimon who were greedy for power.

Tailmon is beautifully drawn and I love how Hikari just holds her because she’s happy Tailmon didn’t turn out badly. Despite the fact she did. Tailmon then says she has to defeat Milleniumon because it’s her duty as a Holy Digimon and Patamon is like ‘oh right that’s me too lol’.

Tailmon then thinks about how she’ll never put Hikari in danger again. Oh golly, are we giving them both characters? Simply unheard of!

Okay, to answer my question from earlier, Komodomon’s back area DOES have an air bubble on it, so that’s fine. Anwyay, Komodomon crashes into some underwater village with all these DeepSaver Digimon.

A hoard of Manbomon attack, who is Patamon with the DIgimental of Light. Seahomon (who is Armadimon with the Digimental of Light act as some alarms and some Mantaraymon (Patamon with the DigiMental of Reliability) show up and attack. Always great to see armor evolution Digimon show up!

Part of the city’s defense mechanism appears to be a DaiPenmon – the Hybrid Spirit of Ice. Anyway, Tailmon attacks and defeats two Mantaraymon and her Holy Ring is pointed out.

Hikari is in the battlefield and Tailmon tells her she shouldn’t be there. but Hikari says she wanted to see her. Then a giant Marine Angemon shows up and apologises for the attack and says that she protects this city and Takeru points out she has a Holy Ring-like necklace.

Tailmon says that it’s thanks to her holy ring that she can fight with a small body. MarineAngemon says she uses hers to protect the city. Takeru asks Pataman why he doesn’t have one and Patamon looks so sad.

Marine Angemon tells the chosen to rest in her castle and sends the group on floating bubbles. I absolutely love how Tailmon is so concerned for Hikari.

The group arrive at a castle and find that Marine Angemon is actually super tiny. We then get to see the group actually eat and there are a bunch of Deep Saver Digimon in a band, including Sangomon – who only just had a debut in the Pendulum Z which released in November.

Tailmon notices Hikari is gone and we see that she’s taking care of Komodomon. Marine Angemon shows up to heal the Komodomon. Tailmon looks motivated.

Meanwhile, we finally get a Koshiro update on the ISS – the remaining crew escaped Soyuz but there are other satellites in the path. Tailmon sees the group and says that everyone has the heart of a warrior and that she can’t lose.

Marine Angemon says that she senses some dark intent from the attacking Digimon and she has to move the city. We find out that the black lightning can reach under water.

During the night, Tailmon tries to tuck Hikari into bed and then Hikari just holds her and Tailmon is an angry cat and wants to be a hero and fight Milleniumon and it’s really precious.

The underwater City starts moving thanks to Daipenmon’s popsicle hands. However, Anomalocarimon shows up and attacks and allows Mataraymon to enter.

Taichi evolves Agumon to Greymon, Sora evolves Piyomon to Birdramon, Takeru evolves Patamon to Pegasusmon (which I’m still surprised to see). Tailmon tells Hikari to stay behind and that fighting is her job and she jumps away. Hikari looks disappointed but determined.

Marine Angemon looks like she’s struggling and Tailmon tries to attack Anomalocarimon but it does nothing, Tailmon then starts falling but grabs onto a Manbomon and then jumps up for an attack again.

Taichi evolves Greymon to MetalGreymon. Hikari says that she wants to go too, and Taichi lets her ride on MetalGreymon with her and Hikari tells Tailmon not to take on all this on her own and she jumps to Tailmon and says how Tailmon was always calling since she was a little kid.

In a flashback, we see baby Hikari playing with Miko the cat as a kitten and Tailmon says that even before she was in the darkness she’s been calling and waiting for Hikari and how their encounter was fate. Hikari says she came here to save Tailmon and that Tailmon should let her. They join hands (because hand holding is magic) and Hikari gets her Digivice.

Don’t know why Taichi looks so surprised that Hikari has a Digivice. Tailmon starts glowing and as do all the other Digimon. Tailmon is powered up and is able to punch Anomalocarimon. All the other Digimon attack too and successfully are able to defeat Anomalocarimon.

The chosen depart the underwater city and the episode ends, and we get introduced to Tailmon in the encyclopedia. Koshiro says that, according to his research, about 87% of people find cat punches gentle, but Tailmon’s is more cool than gentle. next time it’s Angewomon!

Rating for Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 34

5/5

Oops I really liked this episode – it was nice that we didn’t see an instant evolution but an actual bond forming between the child and their Digimon before they get to start evolving.

It was nice to see Hikari get a character and we find out that Tailmon was always calling, so that explains why Taichi mentions how she’s always been like that.

Overall, it was better than the previous episode as it seems like a good logical step forward from it.

Also, it’s always nice to see an interesting and unique area with more Digimon that we haven’t really seen much of in the anime previously.

I don’t know where all these 5/5 episodes are coming from – have my expectations really lowered that much?
