Q is For…
Qinglongmon
While this won’t be as heartfelt as my previous entry for nostalgic Digimon, Azulongmon/Quinglongmon has a special place in my heart, and probably not for the reason you might think.
Obviously he was in Adventrue 02 and Tamers, but, as I watched the English dub as a child, I didn’t know of him as Qinglongmon. So what’s with the nostalgia for Qinglongmon?
Was it just a cheat to find a Digimon starting with Q without using its English name? You’d think so, but I do actually have some nostalgia for Qinglongmon’s original name.
Well in Digimon World 2003, each of the cities in Amaterasu Server was named after one of the Holy Beats, and the one that stuck in my mind was Qing Long City.
I will never really understand why they didn’t change it to Azulong City to match up with the holy beast references as Qinglongmon was called Azulongmon in English (and, obviously the mythology that the Holy Beasts themselves reference).
But, to be fair, Digimon World 2003 was a little weird with the translations and dub names they went for with how the DigiEgg of Sincerity was the Japanese DigiEgg of Sincerity instead of reliability.
In any case, I was a curious child who recognised the other city names as referencing the Holy Beasts, but wondered what ‘Qing Long’ was referring to, and that’s how I learnt Azulongmon’s original name.
