Following on from last week’s review and, of course, our podcast discussion episode, it’s time to watch the 62nd episode of Digimon Adventure: (2020)!
Opening thoughts
A Sora episode does not fill me with any confidence in particular, but I’m more than happy to be wrong.
I wonder when Taichi will show up this time!
Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 62 “The Tears of Shakkoumon”
Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 62 Review
Taichi and Agumon are walking through a valley and Agumon is hungry. He then finds some farm. It seems that neemon is now working with Pomumon, Junkmon, Biyomon and Sora!
Sora introduces this Neemon as the Neemon from Cloud Continent, who was meant to be with Leomon but we’re not going to mention that. Neemon says that a benevolent Digimon used to protect the area. I can’t wait for it to show up and be super evil.
We also learn that Digimon villages exist at episode 62.
Sora mentioned how the chosen aren’t just here to fight and is just helping out. Which is nice that we get some form of character from her in episode 62.
The group help unroot a tree, but then there’s a massive explosion, it’s Shakkoumon, who then explodes things from his eyes and Junkmon wonders if he’s a benevolent Digimon. Taichi wonders what it’s fighting.
Greymon then evolves with a huge stock footage animation which looks super weird when Birdramon has her incredibly close up evolution sequence.
The two perfect level Digimon then struggle against the one perfect level Digimon. Shakkomon is fairly well animated and detailed. Shakkoumon’s attacks stop and he’s now frozen in place.
Sora goes to investigate nearby ruins for some clues while Taichi watches Shakkoumon. Sora touched the ruins and is able to read what is written in the same way that Taichi read the stone tablet in episode five. So that’s nice that they’re remembering a power that the Digivice has.
Sora finds a small Shakkoumon doll. Sora asks if Biyomon heard Shakkoumon. Biyomon says that it sounded like crying. Sora picks up the doll and has visions, as does Biyomon when she touches Sora. They pass out, because it’s a Sora episode.
Shakkoumon wakes up and MetalGreymon evolves to WarGreymon, interesting to note that he just skipped Alteros mode in the sequence.
Shakkoumon is a lot more threatening in this episode than in 02. A group of Cupimon sealed Shakkomon because he was no longer able to protect them. Oh and the explosion after killed the Cupimon. Like, obliterated them. That was incredibly dark.
I love how Neemon is praying and is basically this high priest. Sora and Biyomon wake up and Garudamon stops Metalgreymon and explains how Shakkoumon things that the battle is still going. Sora’s crest appears above her Digivice and Garudamon evolves to Hououmon.
Hououmon uses her Starlight Explosion attack and Sora’s love to send a message from Cupimon to Shakkoumon, who now starts balling his eyes out which is heartbreaking.
Pomymon wants Sora to stay at the village, but she says she has to protect everyone by stopping the Great Catastrophe and we get a nice pencil style drawing to finish off the episode.
We’re learning about Shakkoumon in the encylopedia. Koshiro says he has seen this silhouette in his books and how there are a lot of gentle Digimon that become lethal when angered. Botamon is next!

This episode was actually fairly enjoyable – Taichi was used more as a supporting role who more or less felt like a ‘viewer’ insert than a character, which works fine. The episode looked pretty and reintroduced Neemon as a character, but didn’t explain how he was separated from Leomon.
It was also nice to see the tablet reading power used again and it was great to see Pomumon again!
I just wish this wasn’t episode 62.
