Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 41 “Mon-Mon Park in the Fog”

Following on from last week’s review and, of course, our podcast discussion episode, it’s time to watch the 41st episode of Digimon Adventure: (2020)!

Opening thoughts

I am actually surprisingly excited and optimistic about this week’s episode! So far Takeru and Patamon have had fairly strong episodes.

Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 41 Review

The children are exhausted, Gomamon is giving Joe a backrub. It’s very very cute. Hikari asks if they’re staying the night and Tailmon says that there’s nothing bad around. Taichi and Agumon say that they’ll stay up and scout and Koshiro and Tentomon will join them. Yamato and Takeru go to look for food.

Yamato says Takeru didn’t have to come, but Takeru says that he wanted to help too. Suddenly it’s foggy and a random theme park has appeared. This episode is really reminiscent of Togemon in Toy Town.

Opposumon shows up and says she’s not a bad Digimon, which is immediately suspicious. Opossumon says that the park is empty and is excited to have guests, but Yamato says that they’re not visitors, just looking for food. Takeru feels bad and they decide to stay for a bit. Opposumon continues to be suspicious.

In the Ferris wheel, Takeru remembers going to a theme park with his parents and brother and says how Yamato was scared of the haunted house, but Yamato says that Takery was scared of roller coasters.

We get some really nice flashbacks of Takeru being on the merry go round. Suddenly, the group notice a hurt Xiaoumon who says that this place is dangerous. Oppossumon shows up and makes giant balloon monsters.

Patamon evolves to Pegasusmon and Gabumon evolves to Garurumon to fight the giant balloon monsters. However, Yamato and Takeru get separated in the fog. We get a brief ‘Takeru’ ‘Oniichan’ back and forth and Yamato finds a haunted house and enter.

Suddenly, balloons with Takeru’s face show up and turn out to be the source of the ‘Oniichan’. Meanwhile, Xiaomon says that his friends were swallowed by a scary thing. Apparently he and his friends had been hiding from the black lightning when the theme park appeared and Bakemon showed up and all his friends got sucked inside of Monzaemon.

A rollercoaster suddenly comes off the rail, distracting Takery, and Xioumon gets taken by Oppossumon while Garurumon evolves to WereGarurumon to fight Bakemon – I’m happy that he easily one hits it.

Oppossumon drops Xiaomon into the Monzaemon statue, who turns out to be WaruMonzaemon. Oppossumon says that WaruMonzaemon is unbeatable because he ate so many Digimon but he’ll be stronger when he eats Pegasusumon. Oppossumon calls it nutrients…but it’s just vore again.

Pegasusmon charges and Yamato shows up and watches his brother get vored. WereGarurumon remembers he can become Sagitarius mode and Pegasusmon reverts to Patamon when vored.

Inside WaruMonzaemon, all these baby Digimon are forced to ride these rides endlessly as balloons suck their energy out and it’s just horrifying when the baby Digimon are saying how their mind will soon go blank and it’s no use to try. Patamon and Takeru start to get fed on too.

Yamato can hear Takeru’s voice and he calls out to him and says how he promised they’d go on the merry go round together – we get a flashback again where Yamato says that they’ll go on a merry go round next time they see one.

Takeru remembers and Patamon says that he can’t give up on hope. A yellow light frees them from their balloons and this gives the other Digimon hope, which frees them. Patamon grows legs and gets taller, becoming Angemon again!

Angemon says that everyone’ hope gave him his wings and WaruMonzaemon is defeated and lands on Oppossumon, killing him too.

After the battle, the group continue to look for food for the others after promising to ride the next merry go round, and we get another ‘pencil coloured’ style end shot.

Daipenmon is the Digimon Encyclopaedia focus this week! Koshiro says what flavours each of Daipenmon’s arms are and then says it’s secretly his dream to pour every flavour onto his shaved ice.

Rating for Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 41

4/5

I liked the episode. It wasn’t perfect but I have a soft spot for eerie settings and flash backs, even if the resolution was just magic hope powers, however, I wouldn’t expect any less from Takeru, honestly…
