Following on from last week’s review and, of course, our podcast discussion episode, it’s time to watch the 28 episode of Digimon Adventure: (2020)!
Opening thoughts
Now, while I know I already actually wrote up this post, when I went to restore my website when I was upgrading, I actually lost a week’s worth of posts, so while the overall review of this post will be the same as the original copy, the opening thoughts and ending thoughts will differ because those bits I do not save. Oops.
Overall, though, I remember not really looking forward to this episode because of the previous episodes being mostly lackluster.
Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 28 “The Children’s Fight For Survival”
Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 28 Review
The episode starts up again with a weirdly longer than normal ‘previously on’. Anyway, Angemon is fighting DarkKnightmon and we get some pretty cool music playing in the background. Hikari is watching on with her cold dead eyes as DarkKnightmon reaches for her. Angemon saves her as Hikari does not consider moving away. DarkKnightmon summons some black lightning which gives him a buff I guess?
Anyway, I’m so prepared for Angemon to die again this episode. Angemon cats his Heaven’s Knuckle on DarkKnightmon and his wings suddenly grow super large. We see Angemon become Patamon and DarkKnightmon become SkullKnightmon. The whole area blows up – I think- and we see Volcdramon – I think. Then we see Moon Milleniumon..I think?
Anyway I guess this is the separation arc. How very Frontier of you, Colon.
Taichi, Hikari and AGumon are together and Taichi is woken by a feather. Agumon looks weirdly drawn. Actually so does Taichi. Sora contacts Taichi on the Digivice. She is with some Flymon. TYamato and Garurumon are with some Monochromon. Koshiro is in a junkyard with a lot of Cyberdramon and a Deckerdramon. Mimi and Palmon are climbing a giant gemstone with Golemon.
Joe and Gomamon are at the hot springs. Good. He deserves that. Joe, by the way, is still studying. I am SO happy for him. Gomamon says that everyone should meet here. However, there’s a creepy Nanimon in the onsen. Cute little Japanese pun – Joe asks ‘Nani mono?’ sorta like ‘what’s this thing??’ but, that’s pretty much his name. I’m a big fan of the fact that Joe is basically the only one to use his Digivice’s analyser functionality to check the Digimon out.
So I guess this is the new evolution arc where the writers couldn’t work out how to give each character their own focus so they just separated them instead. Hey, look, if it works, it works for me.
Koshiro says that Angemon evacuated them. Takeru and Patamon are in some hills, and Patamon is…a lot bigger than I thought – he looks like he’s about Takeru’s size. Koshiro is being Koshiro and giving exposition as Deckerdramon eats some Cyberdramon. Big fan, as always, on the DigiVore.
Hikari is staring at something and she doesn’t know what she’s looking at. Taichi says that she’s always done this since they were little, like she was waiting for something. Okay great she’s just always been Jesus. At least Takeru seems to be getting a personality.
Garurumon evolves in a quick flash to fight the Monochromon. Meanwhile Patamon wakes up briefly and is very, very cute and Mimi finds some gemstones and is very very happy about this, Joe has Nanimon creeping on him.
Now, time for some action – a big Digimon is approaching Taichi, Hikari, and Agumon. Agumon evolves to Greymon. Vocaldramon is given a buff by the black lightning and Greymon evolves to MetalGreymon. Which is greta to see he’s not just going to try fighting a perfect level Digimon as an adult. Volcadramon absorbs the attack from MetalGreymon and then MetalGreymon mode changes.
Brief side note – I am so happy to see another underrated Digimon make an appearances. He’s been around since 2005 in the Digimon Accel virtual pet. Though he did appear once as a mon of the week in Xros Wars.
Anyway, Alteros mode and Volcdramon fight but it basically amounts to a ‘attack harder’ battle, which, doesn’t actually work out immediately because Volcdramon is fine with being surrounded in fire. Alteros mode is losing but then Taichi and Hikari call his name and hold hands, causing WarGreymon to make an appearance. Okay, surprisingly I don’t mind this, because attacking harder actually didn’t work, he had to evolve.
Oh MY GOD A CAPE SHOWED UP AND KIDNAPPED HIKARI PLEASE BE VAMDEMON’S CAPE. OR, better yet, be LadyDevimon’s cape. Oh, nevermind, it’s SkullKnightmon. That’s lamer than it could have been. Is SkullKnightmon Tailmon? That would be cool. Hikari is actually find with being kidnapped by the way, which makes me believe that SkullKnightmon is her partner. Which I would absolutely love. That’s the only way I can imagine her just being okay with being kidnapped. 38mins
We learn about Angemon in the encyclopedia, and by that I mean…Koshiro makes it about Tentomon by wondering if he can ask Angemon if it’s justice to laugh at Tentomon’s jokes or to tell the truth about them. Next time it’s DarkKnightmon.
Rating for Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 28
4/5
You might have to refer to the thoughts on the podcast for this episode due to the fact that I remember less about my ending thoughts as I mentioned in my opening thoughts, Sorry about that.
However, I am still very excited about the idea of Tailmon either currently being SkullKnightmon or Maildramon (due to the fact that Tailmon and the DigiEgg of Miracles actual do result in Maildramon).
Basically, this episode sets up a lot of things that COULD be good and, maybe it’s just due to the fact that this episode follows some pretty average episode, but overall I really enjoyed this episode!
Oh, and I’m also pleased to see that we’re starting to go in a direction of ‘attack harder’ doesn’t always work, so that’s a bonus!
