Continuing on with the rewatch of Digimon Adventure for the Digimon subreddit in the leadup to the Digimon Adventure Reboot coming in April, here’s my Rewatch of Digimon Adventure Episode 2 review!
Opening thoughts
Episodes one and two can effectively be watched as one episode as it’s an introduction to the Digital World (or, for the English dub ‘DigiWorld’).
In my last post, I mentioned the English dub having a few lies, my favourite one from this episode is Agumon saying that these are the first ever humans in the Digital World, which isn’t strictly true.
There’s a line from Joe at the start of the episode who complains that he shouldn’t wear these pants as they ride up while he’s walking, in the 2020 reboot he’s wearing new pants, so I hope that they’re more comfortable.

Rewatch of Digimon Adventure Episode 2 Review
Gomamon summons a school of fish to save the human children and their Digimon partners. The kids find themselves on a beach and try to work out how much food and supplies they have and how they can get home.
Lined up along the beach are telephone booths, but none seems to be working and just spout nonsense which is a pretty comedic moment, but I really feel for Joe and his struggle and efforts to try to work out where they are and what’s going, as the other kids don’t seem to care.
However, Joe is basically made fun of by the rest of the group for the entire episode for being the only one taking everything as seriously as it is.
The monster of the week shows up and the partner Digimon are too tired and hungry to fight except for Agumon, who was the only one who was able to eat.
Unfortunately, Agumon is not strong enough on his own and Taichi ends up in danger. Fortunately this triggers an evolution and Greymon is able to fight off Shellmon.
Izzy is nice enough to confirm that Shellmon didn’t die. Thanks English dub.

Joe continues to be the most reasonable and is made fun of because of it and our human and Digimon characters are further established as well as the overall world mechanics of the show and franchise. Not an incredible episode, but not awful either.
I appreciate the opening ‘last time on’, where Tai finishes off by pointing out the ‘cliff hanger’ (“Talk about your cliff hangers!”). I will always adore the fourth wall breaking that the dub loves.
