Following on from last week’s review and, of course, our podcast discussion episode, it’s time to watch the 63rd episode of Digimon Adventure: (2020)!

Ah good! Just what this series needed! Another Taichi episode!

Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 63 “The Crest of Courage”
Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 63 Review
Sora and Taichi discover a castle with a Knightmon guarding it, who silently lets them in along with a bird. Can’t wait for Sora to get kidnapped.
Taichi is then seperated from Agumon, Sora, and Piyomon. Valkyrimon talks to him about the ancient war and how she left her soul to watch over the warriors.
Valkyrimon has Miyako’s VA from Adventure 02 and she wants to test Taichi, so this is another Test that Taichi gets. A Botamon appears and gets attacked by a possessed-looking Goblimon. Taichi remembers he used to 1v1 Digimon and attacks the Goblimon to rescue Botamon
Not a fan of the side on views we keep getting of Taichi. I wonder if this is him being sent back in time to the ancient times to be with baby Agumon or something.
Another Goblimon appears and the two Goblimon chase Taichi who then jumps off a cliff. Taichi remembers jumping off a cliff into water at the start of the show. Oh god it’s a clip show.
A Seadramon shows up and reminds us about vore. The animation of Seadramon is fairly good. Taichi passes out but wakes up to Botamon’s bubbles. Taichi wishes he could evolve to protect Botamon better. A purple Allomon shows up. Which is a cool new colour variant.
Taichi tells Botamon to shoot bubbles and he jumps through the fire, but another Allomon shows up. Botamon and Taichi are friends now according to Taichi and he uses the power of friendship to yeet Botamon away and fight the 3 Allomon.
Botamon evolves IN A REALLY HORRIFIC EVOLUTION SEQUENCE TO GREYMON. Botamon then disappears and becomes his crest.
Valkrimon talks about Omegamon and we get a bit of an Evangelion as a treat. Her talking about Omegamon would be so much more meaningful as foreshadowing and if we hadn’t already seen him twice.
Taichi wakes up and Agumon says he was zoned out next to him the entire time and the episode ends when he gets his crest of courage.
In the Encyclopedia, Koshiro says that baby Digimon have rebellious phases. Seraphimon is next!

I appreciated the visual call backs to the first part of the Digimon movie (the Digimon prequel), and it was nice to see Taichi actually fight Digimon again, but it felt weird to have Taichi earn his Crest of Courage when he already has had Agumon evolve to two different Mega level Digimon and also Omegamon twice.
It’s a nice choice to have Taichi be the last to get his crest, but considering he’s had all his evolutions, it doesn’t end up meaning much.
