Following on from last episode’s review and, of course, our podcast discussion episode, it’s time to watch the 44th episode of Digimon Adventure: (2020)!
Opening thoughts
I’m still playing catch up with these reviews now that the website is up, as per episode 43, my thoughts were written down as I watched the episode for the first time.
Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 44 “Hikari and the Moving Forest”
Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 44 Review
The children have arrived in a forest and Taichi suggests splitting up to look for food. Hikari steps on some vines and realises that the forest is alive! It’s a GIANT PETALDRAMON!
Koshiro and Sora look from above and discover that the forest has taken damage. Hikari is almost attacked by little soot sprite looking things and Tailmon saves her, but Hikari chases after the soot sprites. For reasons.
Hikari finds a whole bunch of the soot sprites, but Petaldramon’s vines seemed to have protected her. Palmon is afraid that she’ll be damaged too, which I didn’t expect the writers to acknowledge, so well done to them there.
Hikari introduces herself to the vines, and adorable Fuwamon and Muchomon say that it’s Petaldramon. Palmon knows of Petaldramon, but Tailmon answers. Palmon is so excited she gets to meet a legend.
Agumon, Gomamon, and Gabumon are chasing the shy Muchomon and Puwamon and they were worried the chosen were dangerous. They’re refugees who were attacked by the soot sprites and a much larger Digimon which Petaldramon fought with. Palmon is MAD.
OH BOY THIS EPISODE IS STILL BORDERLINE VORE SINCE PETALDRAMON IS A FOREST AND IS BEING EATEN.
Taichi realises that the black bugs are being sent from the bigger Digimon as an attack. Hikari runs off and Tailmon chases her. Hikari thanks Petaldramon for saving her and says she wants to help Petladramon. Petaldramon grows flowers that heal Hikari wounds.
The flowers then become food for the chosen. Tailmon says that they’re on their way to FAGA and should plot, but rest is important. The group decide to help. The big Digimon then attacks with a whole bunch of soot sprites.
Agumon evolves with his dumb and out of place animation and the other DIgimon just evolve during this and don’t get animated (except for Patamon to Pegasusmon which is just an orb and Takeru saying “Pegasusmon”, I guess they wanted to highlight that he’s going to use Pegasusmon instead of Angemon?).
Entmon is then revealed as the giant Digimon – another new Digimon design from the Digimon Pendulum Z! I love how Togemon is terrified of this as the only one made of plants.
It’s weird how they haven’t gone beyond adult to fight. Entmon pieces Petaldramon with his claws and then he has an Alien-esuqe moth thing in his tail which pierces through his body and kills Petaldramon incredibly dramatically.
Hikari runs off. Again. And then she does what the show loves to have eight year olds do – run in front of the bad guy and look angry. She starts crying and calls out for Tailmon. Tailmon evolves to Angewowomon – which I’m fairly certain is only the second time.
Angewomon gives Petaldramon extra power and then picks up Hikari and flies away as it’s Petaldramon’s battle and then Petaldramon and Entmon both die and become a green landmass, which sprouts Petaldramon’s pink flowers.
Today we are learning about Bugermon! Koshiro just says how some people like burgers with pickles but how Bugermon’s pickles are great too. Okay. Next time we learn about MetalGarurumon. So I guess that’s happening.

This episode was just fine. It was very pretty, but it didn’t really have much substance.
I did, however, really like Petaldramon!
