Following on from last week’s review and, of course, our podcast discussion episode, it’s time to watch the 37th episode of Digimon Adventure: (2020)!
Opening thoughts
Hey a Mimi episode! These are usually actually good, so naturally I’m not too hopeful.
However, I do wonder if it’s just another Taichi episode masked as a Mimi episode.

Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 37 Review
Taichi and Koshiro go looking for food and Tentomon decides to split the group up because the group is too big for this series now. Tailmon wants to protect Hikari and Patamon says he’ll play with Takeru, and I just adore how Tailmon is annoyed that Patamon wants to play and is ignoring his heavenly duties. It’s a nice dynamic.
Taichi and Agumon are climbing trees for food and the tree breaks and Taichi and Agumon are now in the current. Sora jumps in fully clothed to rescue them, but they ended up swept away in the current.
Biyomon apologises and blames herself for not evolving, which is a nice touch because otherwise I would complain. Also, I love the trope of this plot convenient separation.
Taichi and Sora are now where Mimi is, so thanks plot convenience. This is just like episode 6 again and I’m not even complaining.
The group find a castle and Mimi says it’s the lair of the ruler Digimon who made the Gotsumon work as slaves. Mimi says that it’s like a sweatshop and how the ‘wave of social issues have reached the Digital World’. I love woke Mimi.
Sora and Taichi look so confused by Mimi’s passion. Then Mimi shows off a ruby, Palmon then brings Sapphire, Emerald, and tons more. It’s basically Pokemon. Mimi now wants diamonds, but I’m assuming these would be blood diamonds?
Palmon says that there are more under the castle. Golemon explains that he’s a slave and they’re not allowed to rest.
Palmon and Mimi basically liberated them. Togemon and Golemon fought for many days and then Mimi’s second kingdom was born.
Mimi says her plan can now start since she has manpower and her plan is to squash the castle and rescue everyone…and then Mimi says she wants the gemstones. Mimi says that her grandfather always said that a workplace is where workers are rewarded for hard work.
Not to be surprising, but I absolutely love Mimi and so does the rest of the cast, so that’s important. Golemon is servant Number 99, back from episode 6! Mimi says that they’re now her employees and not servants for today.
Taichi is awful because he says “oh we’re being pushed into this” yeah, but you’re doing the good thing.
Taichi updates Koshiro’s group, and Koshiro wishes that the DIgivices had positional tracking, so I guess that answers that question. Komodomon falls asleep and the group is then taken off course, so that’s hilarious.
Back to the plot, we see a bunch of Digimon including Sandlizarmon (from the new virtual pet – The Pendulum Z) attacking Birdramon, we then get a flashback to Mimi’s plan.
Taichi and Greymon break thorough with Golemon and Mimi and Palmon are tired, but Taichi points out that Greymon dug the hole. It’s a funny moment.
Mimi then tells the Goblimon off for being awful and says that she’ll fire them. She then orders Greymon to fight the Goblimon. Mimi demands to know where the stones are.
We get another flashback to Mimi’s plan, but then Mimi says she’s going to use plan B, which Taichi doesn’t know. Greymon destroys a bunch of Sand Lizarmon, but Taichi is worried and follows after Mimi.
Mimi evolves Palmon to defeat a Goblimon who is guarding a door and Togemon defeats him easily. Mimi finds more gem stones and is soo excited about it. She appoints Taichi as her transport chief.
Mimi then finds a diamond. Togemon is so happy that Mimi is happy, however, the group then hear noise. It’s another Pendulum Z Digimon – Gogmamon – he’s eating then gem stones and spitting out diamonds.
Mimi yells at Gogmamon and says she’s breaking the Anti-monopoly act and we then find out that the stones he’s eating ARE GOTTSUMON. DOING A VORE.
Togemon and Golemon punch at the same time and it’s super cool, but Gogammon beats them, Golemon is NOW JUST A HEAD. Golemon tells Mimi to run but she yells at Gogmamon to stop instead. I love how Gogamon is drooling.
Gogmamon says that everything here is his, but then Mimi says that it’s her’s and that Golemon is her employee and she won’t leave him behind.
Togemon evolves to Lilimon in a fairly cool sequence which is actually new and is weirdly masculine – not complaining. Gogmamon can power up by eating Gottsumon, which is a nice touch. Albeit horrifying.
Mimi gives Lilimon a diamond for Lilimon to use in her flower cannon as it’s Gogagmon’s weakness, which she figured out.
Greymon shows up with Sora and Mimi says that employees are precious family and this is the cost of Gogmamon neglecting that. Lilimon uses a drill shaped thing? I can’t tell if we see a shadow of Rosemon at all, but it looked very cool.
Sora says that Mimi is a great leader and Golemon calls her president. A nice touch is that Golemon now has a flower wreath. They say their goodbye and Mimi says that another word for company is friends, it’s really sweet.
And there was no Leomon, I knew it was just a “hey we haven’t actually spoken about this guy and just killed him off”.
Koshiro, who I don’t think ever met Leomon, will now talk about how his biceps and abs are so big and he’d love to go to Leomon’s Gym. Funfact, Leomon runs the Gym in a lot of the Digimon World games, so that’s cute. Next time we learn about another dead Digimon – Eldoradimon.

I did like this episode, but it was probably weaker than the other Mimi episodes.
I loved the focus on black companies vs good companies and how Mimi holds such strong values, but also how she’s still a little greedy and wants the gems, but she at least wants to reward the employees.
It was also nice to see a new evolution animation for Togemon to Lilimon.
Also I just like Mimi, best girl since 1999!
