Following on from last week’s review and, of course, our podcast discussion episode, it’s time to watch the 25th episode of Digimon Adventure: (2020)!
Opening thoughts
A start to a new arc and I am filled with dread that we won’t be seeing the majority of the cast for most of it.
Let’s see if I’m wrong…
Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 25 “Dive to the Next Ocean”
Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 25 Review
Okay, I know I say this every five or so episodes…but did they add MORE sound effects to the opening? The last time on is more of a ‘currently on’, which is recapping the overall plot as well as the last episode.
There’s an earthquake and Yamato says it’s no time for a break – Yamato, be reasonable, Taichi isn’t having a break, he’s barely conscious. Anyway, Eldoradimon is sinking or something and then we get a shot of the real world and get an update of the tanker collision in the US. Joe gives exposition is that there’s already tension between the US and Iran and Koshiro says an incident like this could lead to war.
Back to the Digital World, Eldoradimon as well as Taichi are falling through the sky on rocks, Takeru points to Cloud Continent in the sky. Taichi mentions how he doesn’t remember what happens after he was vored. Yamato says he can’t explain what happened, but they won.
There’s something rather off about them all falling on rocks and I think it’s the lack of sound effects. Also, because we can just pull evolution out of nothing, why hasn’t anybody tried to evolve, in previous seasons, we’d have a brief exchange of “hey can you evolve?” “no I’m tired”, but in this season I can barely remember any instance when they actually addressed an inability to evolve.
Agumon says that Eldoradimon is trying to say something, and then we get another shot of the Human World – the partner Digimon think that they’ve found the problem – an outbreak of Zurumon – another hoard of in training Digimon for these characters to struggle against. Koshiro thinks of a plan and suddenly Hikari is just THERE, and Sora has a reasonable reaction of saying her name, but who cares so we’re going back to see what Taichi’s group is doing.
Taichi’s group are still falling and come across a HUGE amount of BigMamemon and Mamemon which are very adorable and start punching at Eldoradimon and I really don’t understand the physics in this episode. Apparently they’re just a territorial swarm, but I have no idea why they’re flying. Agumon mentions that he’s out of energy and I’m guessing Gabumon is too.
Leomon, Spadamon, and Falcomon show up on Peckmon, which, I swear were flightless birds based on the Emu, but now I don’t know. Patamon and Leomon give s some exposition about how Eldoradimon was a slave and can’t move because of the miasma because the writers can’t work out if miasma is good or not. They all decide to save Eldoradimon. leomon mentions how Agumon and Gabumon look tired.
Back to the Human World, Hikari asks what the group are up to and she’s so weird and almost drunk sounding with her voice. Two tankers collide.
Leomon fights the Mamemon hoard and Taichi thinks of a plan, we get evolution music when it’s just the heroes running which feels very weirdly placed. Oh nevermind, they’re evolving, despite us being told TWICE that they were exhausted. So we can just pull out evolutions whenever we want even when the characters are tired. Whatever! It’s okay for Garurumon to be here but it feels weird that Agumon can evolve after everything he went through, but whatever.
So the plan is to hit the BigMamemon into the water so they can bounce up to Eldoradimon and be a cushion. yeah, physics is not in existence this episode. I get that they’re meant to be like balloons but…I just can’t imagine them actually being balloons?
Eldoradimon lands safely in the water with the bomb barnacles. Agumon and Gabumon are hungry and Taichi and Yamato high five.
Back to the characters I care about, Koshiro has a plan and Hikari just..watches..because that’s all she does. Y’know…I super expect her to disappear from here and I’m only half expecting it to be plot relevant this time.
This time we get introduced to AtlurKabuterimon – AtlurKabuterimon apparently is more comfy..so a special cushion is not needed, but he does want to add on a tablet mount. Thanks Koshiro!
Rating for Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 25
2.5/5
Yeah, I was right, this episode was just the start to another arc where we won’t be seeing much of most of the cast, but at least Takeru is involved and we did see a few shots of the cast.
I hope that Hikari doesn’t just magic herself into the Digital World and, instead, travels with the other chosen into the Digital World so that they can be relevant again, but I’m very doubtful of that.
I’m starting to think that this show will continue at this level for the rest of the season….
