Following on from last week’s review and, of course, our podcast discussion episode, it’s time to watch the 1 episode of Digimon Adventure: (2020)!
While the previous episode felt like a bit of a let down for me, my hopes are still high when I sit down to watch a new episode!
Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 11 “The Wolf Standing Atop the Desert”
Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 11 Review
Koshiro wondering what’s inside Gabumon because his fur is Garurumon’s and how he’s going to take a peek one day has to be the most terrifying concept I’ve heard of in my entire life.
Mimi suggested drawing names to work out how they split up, it seems that the desert is cold. She is grouped with Taichi and Tentomon and is complaining that she can’t climb or fly, so I guess Mimi is a little spoiled, which is nice. Palmon lifts her with her vines. The group arrive at some ruins and a Soundbirdmon is watching them.
Meanwhile, Birdramon is flying with Joe, Sora, and Yamato in a basket. So they are flying now. They encounter some Yanmamon, who creates a sandstorm, forcing the children to land. Gabumon is about to evolve when a Yanmamon is destroyed by a long bony tail. Joe wonder if it’s an ally. Awww Kyaromon burst from the sand!
The Kyaromon are frightened by the giant bony thing. Piyomon and
Gomamon attack and we get Be The Winner, because PSYCHE! Gabumon is evolving with an evolution sequence. Bugger off Gomamon and Piyomon – a protagonist is here! Sora captures a Kyaromon as Garurumon fights.
Yamato realises that the owner of the claw is reading their moves. Gabumon says that the power he felt from the opponent was that of an Ultimate level.
Awww Neemon, Bearmon, and Labramon! Neemon has an unfitting voice, sounds more like a Jijimon. Neemon explains that this is all Scorpiomon’s territory.
Neemon asks if they are going to find Leomon. So, I guess time to Leomon death counter has begun. Leomon is leading a resistance.
Neemon says that week Digimon like him cannot fight, but if he crosses the desert to find Leomon, he will be protected. Yamato doesn’t think they should add them to the party as they will just be slowed down and that they have their own mission.
Sora decides to finally have a character and stands up to Yamato and says they should protect them. Yamato leaves because he’s remembered he’s the lone wolf. Joe decides that he won’t abandon the Digimon either.
Gabumon and Yamato decide to walk through the desert, which is a staple of the series. Yamato says that all he needs is Gabumon.
Sora evolves Piyomon in a flash, as does Joe with Gomamon, because they don’t need evolution animations. Birdramon is luring the Sandyanmamon as Ikkakumon carries the Digimon across the desert (the natural area for a seal).
SandYanmamon attack and Ikkakumon fights them, so I guess Birdramon didn’t do a very good job. Ikkaumon is trapped between a Sandyanmamon and Scorpiomon.
Sora’s Digivice glows red, giving Birdramon extra strength or something? Which isn’t that useful because Scorpiomon pulls her down, causing her to deevolve. Ikkakumon is also attacked by Scorpiomon.
Garurumon attacks, rescuing Sora. Scorpiomon reveals himself, and Garurumon fights him. Yamato thinks about how his friends wanted to protect the weaker Digimon, and then thinks about the rest of the group and how hard they work, and then he thinks of his brother.
Garurumon evolves, and he has pants now. WereGarurumon fights and wins, after the battle, Sora thanks Yamato for coming back, and Joe wonders if he used them as bait. Yamato explains that he was rushing because he has a brother who might be terrified at home right now.
Meanwhile, Koshiro, Taichi, and Mimi are in the ruins, and Koishiro is taking photos. Meanwhile, Mimi finds a secret button in the wall that opens up the floor beneath her.
Rating for Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 11
After last week’s episode, this episode was a refreshing return to the Digimon I enjoy – a bit of Digital World weirdness, but a nice mix of character interactions.
It was nice to see Sora be a character and Joe is adorable as always and Yamato still got his time to shine without taking anything away from the other characters.

I have two problems with this episode myself.
The first being that Yamato’s friendship montage was just a cheap repeat of episode 8. The second being that Weregaurumon’s debut was just rather boringly one-sided.
