Following on from last week’s review and, of course, our podcast discussion episode, it’s time to watch the 30th episode of Digimon Adventure: (2020)!
Opening thoughts
Well here we are – we’ve arrived at our next evolution arc. I’m slightly worried that Sora will be somehow weakened and unable to fight in some way, which is honestly my main concern.
Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 30 “The Mega Digimon, WarGreymon”
Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode X Review
Garudamon is fighting some Megadramon and destroys them pretty easily until they all decide to attack at once, but it’s okay because she obliterates them all. OH SORA WAS ON TOP OF HER THE ENTIRE TIME WHEN SHE WAS BURSTING INTO FIRE. THE PLOT ARMOR TRULY NEEDS EXPLAINING! Taichi has destroyed a lot of Allowmon and the Woodmon are watching with fear and Lopmon is just..watching.
Meanwhile, Koshrio is having his friend online look up some things – is it Willis? Koshiro says that the satellites around the world aren’t responding and the data that is exchanged between worlds is increasing, so Koshiro is worried that Digimon will control boats again, but no satellites appear to be completely broken but Koshiro fears he’s overlooked something.
Back to Taichi and Sora, Taichi and MetalGreymon will stall the Digimon while Sora can help save the Woodmon. By ‘stall’ Taichi means ‘destroy’ as that is what he then proceeds to do. A Parrotmon shows up, which is actually kind of nice to see again.
Metalgreymon attacks the Parrotmon so that Sora isn’t discovered and they begin fighting while Koshiro discovers that all the satellites are going to collide with the International Space Station which feels like something that he shouldn’t have overlooked. Apparently the debris would be terrible from the collision.
MetalGreymon mode changes to Alteros mode but Parrotmon does an incredible move called ‘getting out of the way’ and dodges his attack. We get an appearance of the black lighting which causes Parrotmon to evolve to Mega – Crossmon – which debuted in the year 2000 on the Japanese D3 toy, by the way. Crossmon then attacks Taichi and MetalGreymon and surely Taichi has died.
Oh my gosh Taichi’s shirt has torn sleeves from the attack, something which surely will be magically fixed by the end of the episode. Taichi wakes up floating in a void and sees his crest and MetalGreymon who is seemingly frozen in time.
We finally get to see what Hikari is up to, she is still flying on the Black Maildramon and asks SkullKnightmon where she’s going, but gets no reply. We then see that Taichi and Agumon are somehow alive, but it’s suprising that Taichi asks Agumon if he’s alive, which he is. Taichi remembers the WarGreymon silhouette and says he remembers being vored a few episodes ago.
Taichi thinks of everyone else and remembers his sister even too! So the Yagami curse is lifted… Taichi and Agumon encounter the hoard of Allomon again and we get a bunch of clips from the whole season and Agumon evolves to Greymon. We get a few more flashbacks of Greymon fighting and then Greymon evolves to MetalGreymon while being attacked by the Allowmon.
We then get flashbacks of Alteros Mode and MetalGreymon, and then Crossmon shows up, so MetalGreymon becomes Alteros mode. I do like how Taichi rides on MetalGreymon as he fights but it makes the fights seem weird. MetalGreymon’s arm gets destroyed and Crossmon throws him to the ground.
We get a shot of Taichi, who, by the way, must have visited a tailor between now and ten minutes ago as his sleeves have been fixed. Also, throughout this episode we have Veggiemon squealing and I can’t wait for an English dub where he’ll be given a personality.
Crossmon is attacking again and Taichi asks MetalGreymon if he can go on and says that they should show what they can do with their powers. We see that Sora has saved the Woodmon and we get a new insert song as MetalGreymon evolves to WarGreymon and wins the fight.
The episode ends and we get the analyser, Koshiro says that DarkKnightmon is stylish after evolving. but when he did, Kabuterimon says that he was much more stylish. I like the fact that it was Kabuterimon and not Tentomon. Wargreymon is next.
Rating for Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 30
3/5
An okay episode, fairly good action but not much else. It basically went as well as I expected and had no surprises (positive or negative).
I’m glad Sora was useful and didn’t act as a damsel in distress and I’m glad she was given a reason to not be around in the fight between Crossmon and MetalGreymon – she even got to be shown as powerful at the start of the episode!
