Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 21 Review

Skullknightmon leaves on a black Maildramon which is the coolest thing ever. Sapadamon is back, suddenly. Gabumon evolves so they can follow SkullKnightmon to a 2spooky castle that is surrounded by plot miasma. Takeru finds a plot feather. Taichi remembers Ogremon and somehow realises that this is the one Ogremon was pointing towards. HOW? You don’t even know the direction you ended up in.

For a second, i swear Devimon was giving the camera the middle finger, but he’s just doing a magic hand motion to summon another Digimon from Xros Wars – Splashmon! Agumon evolves with a very quick animation sequence and fights alongside Garurumon. Then we get them evolving straight to Perfect with out any animation or call out.

What the hell is this animation quality? All teh characters look so weirdly drawn and proportioned today? Anyway, Takeru finds and looks into a giant hole of plot – a plot hole? And begins to…climb down it? Meanwhile SkillKnightmon is putting the egg on a plot mantle.

ANYWAY IGNORE THAT BECAUSE WE’RE BACK IN THE HUMAN WORLD WITH MIMI’S FAMILY. They want her to relax for a day and Mimi said she did and had a great bath and breakfast but now she has stuff to do. Then we see Joe and his other brother and we learn that his Mum is angry for ditching school and losing his exam book that Mimi ruined that everyone forgot about. Joe’s big brother gives him a getaway bag and wishes him all the best.

Meanwhile, Koshiro has upgraded Koshiro’s Digivice so they can call their Digimon. Wow so we just don’t have or need Gennai anymore.

ATTENTION. PALMON IS HOLDING ONTO PIYOMON AND TENTOMON TO FLY. GOMAMON IS..FLYING? They’re surrounded by Algomon and, ah I thought it might be Calamarimon last episode! Remember Frontier? Calamarimon is apparently controlling the Algomon.

Anyway, Takeru falls down the plot hole and MetalGreymon and WereGarurumon are fighting Splashmon who can just become liquid and move around. WereGarurumon reverts to Gabumon. Splashmon slams MetalGarurumon into the ground a few times and then tries to drag him into the swamp.

Meanwhile Takeru is…exploring and being left alone by his apparent anxious older brother which is just a weird choice. “I care about my brother but I will ignore him and let him climb down a hole to see a giant eyeball”

Anyway, so there’s a giant eyeball and Takeru figures he should hold his Digivice up at it. Literal plot hole. Taichi tries to hold Splashmon’s jaw open which is cool and actually shows courage and it’s cool that the miasma has like, staining Gabumon.

Taichi has a couragous speech about their mission here to rescue the holy Digimon and how they can’t give up and his Digivice reacts, causing MetalGreymon to break through the miasma and giving MetalGreymon a non-evolution upgrade. He has arm laser now BECAUSE HIS ARM BROKE OFF AND HE HAS A SWORD NOW AND THAT’S KINDA COOL GLAD TO KNOW THE WRITERS CAN DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. They win and Agumon reverts and suddenly Takeru appears on top of Eldoradimon from Digimon Savers. Do you remember Digimon Savers? I remember.

Eldoradimon opens up his HEAD to allow them on board. Anyway, back to the real world, Koshiro sees that Algomon are trying to crash a tanker into the city. This also happened in Savers. We then see Mimi and Joe on their way and Devimon is watching Taichi’s group.

In the encyclopaedia, we get introduced to MetalGreymon. All that I want to note is that Koshiro wonders if Kabuterimon can do the same.

Rating for Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 21

4/5

I wish I hadn’t given so many episodes a 4 or a 4.5, because this episode didn’t deserve a 4.5, but it was definitely better than other episodes that I’ve given a 4.5 to before.

I’m happy that this was an actual Courage activation rather than a free evolution.
