Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 2

Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 2 “WAR GAME”

Following on from last week’s review and, of course, our two podcast episodes, it’s time to watch the second episode of Digimon Adventure: (2020)!

Opening thoughts

After such a strong start to the season, I remain cautiously optimistic for the show, I have such high hopes for Digimon Adventure: (2020), so I’m hoping that this week’s episode continues to build upon the solid foundation that the first episode gave us, so let’s see how episode two pans out!

Also do you like the new logo for the podcast and blog? I made it myself and it took me far much longer than it should have.

Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 2 Review

Yamato and Garurumon are edgy and defeat some Algomon to prove their edginess.

Uh Greymon and Garurumon talking looks weirdly animated and reminds me of Princess Mononoke where the wolves would talk but their mouths would just stay open and not move.

Greymon and Garurumon know each other, which is interesting, but also makes sense because, if they were waiting for their chosen partners, they would have met already.

Anyway, Yamato and Garurumon ollie outie and Taichi and Greymon follow them. Taichi wants to work together and then tells Koushirou that he made a new friend. Oh my prediction about Taichi saying everyone is a friend was right.

Koushirou is in contact with other web experts who know about the current crisis. Is it Wallace? Taichi says they should form a team. Why is Yamato’s voice so deep? It’s weirdly deep for an eleven year old.

Yamato says he looks forward to working together and then runs off. He acta like it’s a business deal sort of arrangement, which is weird, but okay.

Koushirou has and is using Skype by the way so I’m fairly confident Koushirou is lying about his age on the internet.

Taichi wonders if Yamato knows more. Koushirou hears about a nuclear submarine which is in an uncontrollable state.

Meanwhile, Taichi’s Mum and sister are safe and oh dear Hikari looks unwell or sad, are we getting her sick child arc now?

The chosen are going through the net and stumble upon the Algomon eating the middle network. Taichi again fights hands on, which is always great fun to see.

They see a larger Algomon while Garurumon is attacking a swarm of them. Greymon notices the bigger one is wide open, so he and Taichi go onto fight it while Yamato and Garurumon distract him.

Koushirou gives us a countdown while, somehow, Taichi is not falling off Greymon’s horns. They do a combined attack, but the larger Algomon evolves and Greymon and Garurumon aren’t strong enough. Yamato is holding is arm like being thrown away and squashed actually hurt him.
Taichi suggests working together and notices that Yamato looks troubled. Greymon is thrown away and has actually had damage taken. Taichi says that Yamato has a plan, which Yamato says is a double edged sword.

They decide to do Yamato’s risky plan and Yamato and Taichi fist bump with their Digivices. Both the Digimon attack from behind and fire into Algomon while they bite. Both of the Digivices glow with their crests.
The clock is still counting down and Koushirou alerts them to that fact. The missile is fired from the nuclear submarine and Algomon stands again and roars.

Wow the Digimon have battle damage which is always surprising.
Koushirou has identified the missile’s target which is obviously Tokyo and we get shots of Takeru and Hikari and a floating feather.

Algomon has evolved again and aims a huge attack at Taichi and Yamato who also have battle damage. Takeru and Hikari touch falling feathersz activating their crests as Algomon fires.

Koushirou sees an egg on the screen, which turns out to be Omegamon. Called it on WithTheWill podcast this morning; Omegamon won’t be a huge twist and will show up early.

Episode ends as I was getting into it, because of course it does.

Rating for Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 2

3.5/5

This is a hard rating, I liked the episode and giving it a 3.5 feels fairly low (maybe a 3.8 is more appropriate), however, I felt like things were just getting exciting and the end happened, making me a little negative because I had to wait another week for more – which, yes, I get is kind of the point of a show, to make you WANT more – but I felt like this episode didn’t give me as much as episode one gave me in terms of enjoyment.

However, it sets up episode 3 quite well, and now, again, I’m excited for another week to pass so I can watch Digimon.

Fuck it, I’ll give it a 3.8.

my only concern is how unearned this feels. like at the back of my mind i was just hoping they’d have them fail miserably and get out purely from sheer luck or something. now i’m hoping that omegamon is unstable and just fail due to none of them knowing each other for long.

Listening to your podcast and yeah this was pretty fast. I’m hoping once we’ve gotten past this first arc it slows down a bit but it was still fine. I’m hoping that Omnimon/Omegamon showing up early means he isn’t the final form. Maybe they can include the new evolutions from Kizuna later on? I’d be fine with that. I just hope the show doesn’t use Omnimon/Omegamon too much in the long run.

What are your thoughts?
