Following on from last week’s review and, of course, our podcast discussion episode, it’s time to watch the 15 episode of Digimon Adventure: (2020)!
Opening thoughts
I don’t really have many thoughts as I sit down to watch Digimon for another week – I was really impressed with last week’s episode, but will lightning be able to strike twice, or will any lightning this week be solely limited to Zudomon’s Iron Hammer?

Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 15 Review
Learning that Gomamon’s marching fishes are his followers is probably my highlight of the week. We get to learn about Garurumon in next week’s Encyclopedia! The opening hasn’t changed other than the weird sound effects I pointed out last time.
Sora’s group are flying on Birdramon, so they’re taking turns travelling which is great – Biyomon is tired. The group are almost at the meeting pointing and have reached a giant lake, but they must first cross the mountain, which is Gabumon’s job. Joe feels bad because Sora and Yamato are strategising, but Gomamon makes him feel better.
Mammon shows up with some Frigimon! Alright, so we know that Biyomon is already tired and can’t evolve, but I wonder how they’ll handle Gabumon not evolving. Frigimon hits Biyomon and attacks Sora and actually freezes her leg. Is this the first time in Digimon we’ve ever seen a child get hurt?
The ice is spreading. Gabumon is able to break the ice, but Sora is wounded.
Mammon stomps his feet and causes an avalanche. Yamato asks Gabumon to evolve, but I guess it isn’t in time?
We see what Taichi’s group are doing – they’re walking in a dessert! Mimi is…riding a Kiwimon? There is some stampede of a Kiwimon heard, Mimi explains that they were cute and wanted to ride one. The buggest mood.
Back to the plot, looks like Gabumon did evolve but we just didn’t get an evolution sequence. Sora is really suffering. It’s an ice virus. The group start to plan how they’ll proceed, but Frigimon and Mammon are hunting them. Yamato asks Joe if he can lure them away.
Joe throws a snow ball at Frigimon, and then jumps off a cliff onto Ikkakumon and lures all the Frigimon away. Mammon is infront of him and Ikkakumon attacks. Now this is courage, Joe is visibly terrified but is still doing this.
Joe takes Sora away on Garurumon as Ikkakumon is heading downstream on the river as the others go upstream,
The Frigimon fall down a canyon, so now there is only Mammon left.
Taichi’s group, meanwhile, are hiding in a cave. Suddenly Mimi feels a weird wind.
Joe is still being followed by two Frigimon and the Mammon, but are eventually stuck at a dead end of the cliff. Joe feels bad because he doesn’t know what to do, but Gomamon says he has to remember his goal. Joe tells Ikakumon to aim for where Mammon is stepping, which causes Mammon to fall, however, they also fall off the cliff with Mammon.
Ikkakumon goes into the water, Joe gets a call from Yamato who has just crossed the river and has Sora resting by a fire. However, Mammon is still wanting to fight and freezes the river. Ikakumon says that they can’t let them pass, but Joe is hessitating and says they can’t just with the two of us, but Ikkakumon says that everyone will be in danger if they don’t try.
Yamato asks Joe if he needs to come down but Joe says Sora can’t be left alone and will fight, this causes Ikkakumon to evolve to Zudomon and Zudomon is able to defeat Mammon. After the fight, Zudomon has the cutest and dumbest smile.
We get another Tokyo update, it’s the third day of the backout. Back to the group, Sora is feeling better and Biyomon evolves to Birdramon. Sora thanks Joe and they board Birdramon. We see Taichi’s group in a cave and Mimi says it’s weird and it’s hard to see in the dark, and Koshiro says it feels slimy. They reach the exit….They’re back in Japan.

Wow that was a good episode – we had explanations on why the other Digimon couldn’t evolve and we had relatable emotions coming from Joe. This one will be a hard one to rank between episode 12 and episode 15, but I’ll work something out.
