So yesterday a thing that I bought purely because it was 200 yen and had cute cover art arrived…
The cover art, as I mentioned, is pretty cute and I have a soft spot for Digimon Adventure 02 because it was the first Digimon season I watched from the first episode that aired. The D3 was also the first Digivice toy that I owned. So major nostalgia there.
The disc’s design has our six main heroes looking heroic in an interesting choice of green. When I think ‘Digimon Adventure 02’ I think blue or red, maybe even a small bit of yellow, but not green. Maybe whoever chose the colours is a big Takeru fan?
Anyway so let’s pop in the disc…

Uhm. I have a Japanese language pack installed but for some reason it’s not coming up for the wizard. Also when was the last time an installer was called a ‘Wizard’. I love this, can we bring this back?
Uh yeah sure why not
This wizard is how I feel when I have to wake up and go to work every morning.
Thankfully it installed. It plopped two shortcuts on my desktop. Both are also in gibberish. So let’s pick the first one.Alright so the menu items are ‘Mini Game’, ‘Icon’, and some kanji I can’t read but it says ‘Wallpaper’.
Clicking ‘Mini Game’ opens up another window in macromedia flash.
Clicking on icons or wallpaper opens up a page in your internet browser. The wallpapers are all clickable thumbnails. The icons are all part of one image. They’re not amazing quality, however, they’re better quality than the icon that the actual disc uses for its setup.
Onto the mini games, the first reminds me of ‘Operation’ – don’t touch the sides or the obstacles and navigate Submarimon through the maze. This game is very challenging and I’m not sure if there are any other levels because I couldn’t get past the first bend.
The second game is a puzzle with the Japanese Digimoji. The key for solving it is down the bottom. It seems you have to order them to make a sentence, in this case, it’s ‘The Fire of Courage, Fladramon’.
The final button on the popup is ‘Links’ which opens this page up, you can click on the links to get to some websites and learn more about Digimon!
I wanted to see what the other thing the game installed on my desktop so I clicked it…
It’s a Shimeji! However, it’s not made for Windows 10 so it comes with this really..bad background. I wonder if I could reprogram him. He’s quite cute.
He comes with settings, you can change his animation to make him spin like Sonic the Hedgehog or you can make him bigger!
Well that was fun, as for what I would use from the disc…probably nothing except maybe Shimeji Vmon if I can fix him up.
The wallpapers all have the 02 logo on them and some copyright text and are just screenshots, so I probably wouldn’t use them and the icons are very pixelated and there’s nothing special about them.
However, it’s a fun find for 200yen and a fun part of my collection.
Would I recommend this? Probably not unless you really like 02 and really like the cover art. I wish the cover art was available as a wallpaper or screensaver because it’s really cute!
