I want to preface this post with a reminder than dumb does not mean I hate the Digimon, and can even mean I love the Digimon and its design. Something with a dumb design doesn’t mean I don’t love its design.
We’ve had Quartzmon who is dumb and I hate him, Jet Silphymon, who is dumb and makes me a little mad, and MetalGreymon Cyber Launcher, which is just dumb, and we’ve also had DaiPenmon, which is the best ever, and I even chose NiseDrimogemen, who was also my choice for the most underrated Digimon starting with ‘N’, and, now we have this Digimon.
Somethings are just wonderfully dumb.
S is For…
C’mon! Look at this guy! HE’S A HAPPY SURFING SHARK. A GOOD BOY!
I really do feel bad picking a Digimon that was fan designed by a kid I love it so much but it’s so silly. Everything about him is so over the top. Surfimon’s design is very much that ‘Digimon’ design idea of living thing + lots of metal + happy face = Digimon.Surfimon actually came second place, after a Digimon I absolutely love but is also kinda silly looking – CatchMamemon.
All of the art for Surfimon have him drawn so over the top and happy, I just love him so much. Surfimon was re-drawn by Okano Takeshi, the illustrator of Next, but has been drawn since then on various cards and was in some of the Digimon mobile games, but sadly was never animated or in a manga.
I’d like to see Rinkmon and Surfimon in some contest, they’re slightly similar in design.
