Following on from last week’s review and, of course, our podcast discussion episode, it’s time to watch the 10 episode of Digimon Adventure: (2020)!
Opening thoughts
Do we get an evolution? Judging by the episode title..yes, yes we do. The question is will it be in the main part of the episode, or is this an end of episode spoiler?
Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 10 “The Super Evolution of Steel”
Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 10 Review
The start of episode has an analyser for Greymon this time, and we see a hint of Metal Greymon. It appears next time will be Gabumon, so I guess episode 11 will be the WereGarurumon episode?
Koshiro filmed the entire battle that occurred after the last episode, apparently. Agumon is unconscious and being looked after by Gomamon, which is adorable. Kohsiro is analsying MetalTyranomon’s data. Yamato is saying to Taichi that retreating was the only chance as they would die. Taichi is remembering Ogremon.
Mimi doesn’t like the atmosphere and Joe wonders if he should stop Yamato and Taichi so they don’t fight. Yamato thinks that Ogremon might be lying and if Taichi trusts him, he won’t survive.
Agumon wakes up and his stomach is rumbling, which breaks the tense atmosphere. Agumon wanted to finish his battle with Ogremon. Piyomon, Palmon, and Tentomon return with food. Tentomon mentions how there were Soundbirdmon. Yamato asks Taichi what he’s thinking., Taichi says how there are enemy eyes all over the forest.
Koshiro has made a great discovery, apparently – a huge map of Cloud Continent, that he then sends to the rest of the group and there are a few points where the Holy Digimon may be located and that they should find one. I was worried that we would have a separation arc, however, Koshiro overlays the direction that Ogremon pointed out. Thansk to Ogremon, we will not have a separation arc today!
Yamato says that this information sounds trustworthy. The group then set out, with Taichi and Agumon luring out MetalTyranomon, so more tactical smarts, I like it.
Agumon evolves to Greymon to fight MetalTyranomon. Meanwhile, the group find a gross smelling swamp that they have to cross. Koshiro finds that the strange mist is is actually what is emitted from MetalTyranomon. Joe suggests throwing something, so Mimi tosses one of Joe’s books, which they gets eaten by the swamp. They then hear an explosion coming from where Greymon and MetalTyranomon are fighting.
Greymon is using his speed against MetalTyranomon, which reminds me of Greymon in Next. Greymon says he won’t give up. Greymon is launched away by one of MetalTyranomon’s missiles, and they land near the rest of the group. Greymon is, very surprisingly, still standing, and Taichi and Greymon charge at MetalTyranomon.
We get a body horror evolution sequence, and a new insert song as MetalGreymon fights MetalTyranomon, and causes him to fall in the swamp. Not sure about how this evolution triggered the Crest of Courage as it was more persistence.
Anyway, MetalGreymon won and MetalTyranomon dissolves. Agumon says that he hopes that Ogremon was watching. The children return to wondering how to cross the swamp and are just ignoring the fact that they have two flying Digimon – three now if you count MetalGreymon. The group wonders whether they should go left or right, Yamato suggested that they should have a separation arc.
THANKS YAMATO.
Rating for Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 10
3/5
2.5/5
I do not like separation arcs and I do not like how nobody made up a reason why they couldn’t just fly over the swamp – can’t fly above the gas, evil Digimon in swamp? No, they just never tried it or even suggested it which really hurt my opinion of this episode.

Since Koushirou refered to the mist covering the swamp as a miasma, and seeing what falling in the swamp would entail, I think it’s reasonable no one even brings the option of flying over it.
Bringing in Perfects already makes this feel really rushed In my opinion.
