Having a Digimon Halloween? Here are 12 Fun, Spooky Episodes

We don’t really celebrate Halloween here, but it’s always fun to have a reason to watch some scary movies! So here are twelve Digimon episodes to watch for a Digimon Halloween!

Digimon Adventure Episode 08

English title: “Evil Shows His Face”
Japanese title: “Devimon, the Emissary of Darknesss”
Synopsis
digimon halloween adventure devimon
“Scoot closer, children.”

This episode has it all; creepy house, creepy aura, and a creepy devil trying to kill children in the middle of the night.

This episode also gives you a possible hint that there were meant to be eight children, as Devimon has set out eight beds in the bedroom. It’s also a pretty fun episode in general and it’s the first real dive into plot and non-formulaic episode (before we dive into another set of formulaic episodes).

What more could you possibly want for a spooky Digimon Halloween (a DigiWeen, if you will).

Where to watch it? AnimeLab in Australia or on DVD.

Digimon Adventure Episode 33

English title: “Out on the Town”
Japanese title: “Pump and Gottsu are Shibuya-Type Digimon”
Synopsis
digimon halloween adventure
They looks frightened as they’re going to be sent to prison in the DigiWorld!

This episode came out exactly a week before Halloween and features a talking Pumpkin as well as a vampire and a werewolf, so of course it’s a Digimon Halloween episode!

Out on the Town is also just a fun episode to watch and Pump and Gotsu are just so fun and I wish we saw more of them before they were killed sent to Myotismon’s prison in the DigiWorld

While an episode did actually get released ON Halloween, it doesn’t fit as much as this episode does, and this episode is just so fun, and it’s a nice little tour of Shibuya as well.

Where to watch it? AnimeLab in Australia or on DVD.

Digimon Adventure 02 Episode 13

English title: “His Master’s Voice”
Japanese title: “Call of Dagomon”
Synopsis
digimon halloween 02 dark ocean
“Come, small child, let’s get you married to Cthulhu, it’ll be fine”

This episode is such a good stand-alone episode of Digimon Adventure 02. Of course, it mostly goes no where in terms of the plot and is only briefly brushed over in 02 and then again in Tri.

What makes this episode creepy? Hikari gets spirits away by some non-Digimon followers of Dagomon (yes, they appear to be Divermon, but they then say they’re not Digimon) and they want her to marry Dagomon and become their Queen.

Where to watch it? AnimeLab in Australia or on DVD.

Digimon Adventure 02 Episode 17

English title: “Ghost of a Chance”
Japanese title: “Odaiba Memorial”
Synopsis
digimon halloween 02
Less horrifying when you realise it’s Wizarmon.

This is one of my ‘Odaiba Day’ episodes of choice, but it’s actually pretty scary and it just gets creepier until the very second the ghost is revealed to be Wizarmon.

This episode is great because it has a lot of callbacks to the first seasons, so it triggers a sense of nostalgia, the episode also foreshadows the return of Vamdemon and the fact that Ken will be an ally. Digimon has a habit to only foreshadow an episode or two before the ‘reveal’, so having this occur BEFORE anything became relevant is actually pretty well written.

Where to watch it? AnimeLab in Australia or on DVD.

Digimon Tamers Episode 10

English title: “The Icemon Cometh”
Japanese title: “Renamon is my Friend! Ruki’s Hesitation”
Synopsis
digimon halloween tamers ruki
What is it, Ruki?”

Anything that involves a young girl being kidnapped and/or brainwashed by a devil is grounds for a scary episode in my books.

Where to watch it? AnimeLab in Australia or on DVD.

Digimon Tamers Episode 27

English title: “Motorcycle Madness”
Japanese title: “Impmon Evolves! The Shudder of Beezlebumon the Dark Lord”
Synopsis
digimon halloween tamers guilmon
Seems normal

When I first saw this episode, I had to turn the TV off, I didn’t even get to see Impmon evolve! Guilmon being so terrifyingly different freaked me out when I was a kid – the lovable, excitable, puppy-like dragon was suddenly so different.

It’s not really that scary now, and doesn’t have ghosts or devils (besides Beelzemon and Impmon, I guess), but it’s somehow so scary because of how different Guilmon acts – anybody drastically changing like that is a scary thing to witness.

In addition, you could probably say that this MAY have been foreshadowing to Guilmon’s dark evolution, but it’s pretty weak.

Where to watch it? AnimeLab in Australia or on DVD.

Digimon Frontier Episode 09

English title: “Welcome to my Nightmare”
Japanese title: “Chakkumon is the Enemy!? The Mysterious TV Forest”
Synopsis
digimon halloween frontier
Ah yes, protect the girl who would not be able to protect herself against a small eight year old that’s half her size.

This episode, for some reason, sticks in my mind pretty vividly. As mentioned for ‘Motorcycle Madness’ – seeing a character acting so different is creepy. Tomoki is the ‘crybaby kid’ of Digimon Frontier, so see him actively trying to kill his team mates is sort of terrifying.

Also Bakumon is just adorable.

Where to watch it? AnimeLab in Australia or on DVD.

Digimon Frontier Episode 27

English title: “Stuck In Sakkakumon With You”
Japanese title: “Double Spirit Miracle! BeoWolfmon is Born”
Synopsis
digimon halloween frontier duskmon
He dropped a coin somewhere

This whole episode feels like a nightmare or a fever dream. Close and dark spaces, scary and creepy Digimon, it’s just so much of a fever dream.

Where to watch it? AnimeLab in Australia or on DVD.

Digimon Savers Episode 10

English title: “Curse this Curse”
Japanese title: “The Worst Day of Masaru’s Life — Mischievous Soulmon”
Synopsis
digimon halloween savers
He’ll fight anybody – especially a boat.

This episode is probably more funny than it is creepy – especially when Masaru tries to fight a boat, so if you need a bit of fun for you Digimon Halloween – this is the episode for you.

Where to watch it? AnimeLab in Australia or on DVD.

Digimon Savers Episode 15

English title: “The Gorge of Deception”
Japanese title: “Memories of Mother — Howling MachGaogamon”
Synopsis
digimon halloween savers MetalPhantomon
I love/hate this design, it’s cool, but it’s so edgy: SKULLS AND METAL AND FIRE

Emotional, features an evolution, creepy AND features both spiders, ghosts, AND skulls? What is a more perfect episode to watch?

I mostly rank evolution episodes as ones of my favourites – in any case, they’re meant to be exciting and emotional. Though, while I wouldn’t say this was my favourite evolution episode, it definetly ticks a lot of boxes for a good Digimon episode to watch for a Digimon Halloween!

Where to watch it? AnimeLab in Australia or on DVD.

Digimon Xros Wars Episode 33

English title: “Vampire Land and the Moonlight General”
Japanese title: “Spine Shivering! The Moon-light General’s Vampire Land”
Synopsis
digimon halloween fusion
When you realise you have to watch 70 mediocre episodes until you see a Digimon crossover

Besides this and its following episode being probably the best episodes in Xros Wars, this episode is also super creepy as it features a vampire actually being a vampire and killing and eating Lopmon

Where to watch it? CrunchyRoll

Digimon Universe Appli-Monsters Episode 4

“I Shall Have You in Costume! Cameramon’s Halloween Scandal!”
Synopsis
digimon halloween appmon
SPOOKY SCARY PUMPKIN MAN

This was actually the episode I ranked to the best out of all of the Appmon episodes on the AppliRanking that we wrote up when we were covering Appmon on the podcast.

This episode is well written, funny, and, most importantly, set on Halloween! So it’s the perfect episode to watch for a Digimon Halloween!

Where to watch it? DVD.

Will I be having a Digimon Halloween?

I’ll try to watch all of these episodes, or, at least the spooky episodes in Adventure and Appmon. I usually dress as Hiro/Mameo to work as it’s a pretty low-key cosplay that I can get away with.
