Rewatch of Digimon Adventure Episode 3

Continuing on with the rewatch of Digimon Adventure for the Digimon subreddit in the leadup to the Digimon Adventure Reboot coming in April, here’s my Rewatch of Digimon Adventure Episode 3 review!

Also this is the blog’s 700th post!

Opening thoughts

Episode two and three are more of less the same as each other; we haven’t really learnt of any evil in the Digital World and so far it’s wild animals being wild animals. Effectively, episode 3 follows episode 2 completely and is almost the exact same episode by with a slightly different setting (lake, not ocean).

As I mentioned in my review of the first episode, this episode has the English dub make a small error where Matt mentions Takeru is his half brother.

Rewatch of Digimon Adventure Episode 3 Review

Similar to episode two, episode 3 also has the children thinking about how to survive, so the look for food and shelter. Palmon saves Mimi from eating poison berries, which is a nice little bit of danger that was added in addition to the duelling dinosaurs.

When the children are trying to work out where they are, Tai actually says something smart – the children discuss how they can’t see the north star and Tai points out that it might be because they’re in the southern hemisphere. I guess he did have a small telescope, so it would make sense that he has an interest in astronomy, but, for memory, it’s sadly never touched on again.

The group find a trolley car where they can stay the night, but after having run ins with Digimon such as Kuwagamon, Shellmon, and the two fighting Monochromon, they decided to sleep in shifts so that somebody can be on lookout.

When Tai and Matt are awake, a spark from the fire awakens a sleeping Seadramon which puts all the children in danger. In order to protect TK, Matt dives into the lake and endangers himself, causing Gabumon to evolve to Garurumon.

At the end of the episode Izzy points out how this is similar to how Agumon evolved previously to protect Tai.

Rating for my Rewatch of Digimon Adventure Episode 3

3.5/5

Mimi spends a lot of the episode complaining about walking or being outside or dirty. This is more or less an English dub invention, as she’s completely reasonable, like Joe, in the original, but again, I’m not here to compare the differences as I’ve already gone through and done that.

This episode is more of less the same as the last episode, but I actually enjoy this episode more than episode 2 as it gets a little bit more in depth in terms of the relationships between the human children and their own personalities.
