Following on from last episode’s review and, of course, our podcast discussion episode, it’s time to watch the 5th episode of Digimon Adventure: (2020)!
As always, this review isn’t spoiler free, so make sure you watch the episode prior to reading my review to avoid getting spoiled!
Opening thoughts
Another week, another time to watch Digimon, I’m a little anxious because Digimon hasn’t always been able to explain lore without it being immediately relevant or never really that important at all.
I hope this season continues impress me.
Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 5 “The Holy Digimon”
Digimon Adventure 2020 Episode 5 Review
Taichi and Sora arrive at the temple, and Taichi is able to read the DigiMoji, he touches a slab and it glows, and then a feather comes out.
Meanwhile, Tentomon and Koushiro are inside Whamon, Tentomon already admires Koushiro as he is unphased and spending time researching whatever is going on. Suddenly, Taichi and Koshiro are able to communicate through the Digivice.
Valduromon address the children and informs them of an ancient war that took place. Suddenly the temple appears to be restored, but is then surrounded by dark and evil Digimon. Agumon says he is getting chills, and Piyomon says she does’t like them. Valdurmon says that the brave warriors fought off the evil Digimon.
The child Digimon see their fully evolved forms and also Omegamon. Valdurmon says that the Digimon also died in the battle, but they became DigiEggs, Piyomon and Agumon are crying, but do not know why. Also, there were six eggs, so maybe Ophanimon and Seraphimon didn’t die or something else is different about them.
I guess this sort of explains why Agumon and Gabumon could already evolve so easily as they have just been returned to DigiEggs. Taichi remembers Omegamon, but Agumon does not.
Valdurmon says that the children who walk with the Digimon are their last hope, but they should be wary of the network made by humans as its darkness cannot be stopped in the Network which could bring darkness to the human world.
Koshiro finds that the outages are still extending, but the internet is still able to be used. Suddenly, Whamon is under attack, as is the temple. It’s Ogremon leading an army. Which is fairly cool.
Valdurmon says they need to go to another cloud continent to meet the light and hope – the light and hope. Valdurmon disappears as Dokugamon continue to attack. Piyomon says that they don’t usually hunt like this.
Meanwhile, Tylomon are still attacking Whamon. Tentomon tickles Whamon’s tonsils, helping them escape, However, Koshiro wants to make sure Whamon is safe.
Taichi and Agumon fight the Dokugamon to try and break through the web, but Sora notices a weird sound, coming from some weird bad, which appears to be shaking the web. Piyomon says that she might be able to break the web.
Back to Koshiro, who is analysing Tylomon’s attacks, he also sees the strange black bat looking thing which appears to be controlling the Tylomon. The bat is called Soundbirdmon. Koshiro tells Tentomon to let go of him to save himself, they get attacked and seperated, Tentomon saves Koshiro and begins to fight the Tylomon.
Koshiro’s Digivice glows purple and so does Tentomon. Tentomon wants to protect him. Tentomon evolves to Kabuterimon in a REALLY cool scene! Koshiro is so happy.
Meanwhile, Piyomon also evolves in a very quick way which I don’t completely hate and allows Birdramon to break through the webs. Agumon evolves too, but he gets the stock animated scene.
Koshiro tells Kabuterimon to focus on Soundbirdmon, and one attack is able to stop Soundbirdmon, however, a bunch of them are watching them, and then leave.
Sora and Taichi are safe, and watch the rainbow mountain from a far, Taichi says he didn’t get the full story. Koshiro calls Taichi on his Digivice and informs him that Tentomon was able to evolve and also to be wary of Soundbirdmon, which Biyomon recognises as the one she saw before.
Koshiro wonders if he was sent aloneto meet Tentomon and then we get tsundere Koshiro being embarrassed.
We then get a shot of Devimon in a silhouette, and it appears ogremon is maybe reporting to him through Soundbirdmon. We get a shot of the feather at the temple, the feather disappears.
THEN WE GET A SHOT OF PALMON AND ALL IS RIGHT WITH THE WORLD.Palmon is running through some cute village. She runs back to Mimi, who is holding her Digivice, and I for one welcome the princess of the Digital World.
Honestly, I would have just been fine with it ending at Palmon watching in a bush but then they had to show Mimi.

The plot appears to be thickening! We get some lore, some explanation on how Agumon could reach such a high level, and we got a quick shot of Mimi and Palmon. This episode really continues the great start of the show and I’m starting to feel worried that I’ve ranked earlier episodes too highly, because, at this rate, I’m going to start giving episodes 6/5…
